Handmade suiseki and sumi-e from Calabria

Every piece exists only once.

I find the stones myself, on the seashore and along the rivers. I carve the stands myself, by hand, one for each stone. I paint the paintings myself, with ink and brush.

Nothing is mass-produced: what you see here is the only one in the world.

How a piece is born

Finding

I walk along the sea and rivers of Calabria until a stone speaks to me: a mountain, an island, a waterfall in miniature.

Carving

For each stone I hand-carve a daiza, the wooden stand that holds it as if it were made to measure. Because it is.

Painting

With sumi ink, water and a few colours I paint pines, moons and blossoming branches. Every brushstroke is a unique gesture that cannot be repeated.

My story

Behind every stone and every painting there is just one person: me, Teresa. I work alone, unhurried, in Guardavalle, between the sea and the mountains of Calabria.
